STRIPY

STRIPY cups may seem ordinary at first glance, but they are quite elaborate in production: first a cup is casted in two colors, and then once it has dried a little, it goes on a potters wheel and the outer layer is carefully carved away in stripes (scroll down for the video of the process). The cups are thin and light and have a tendency to fly off the wheel, so one needs quick reflexes and a steady yet gentle hand to do the job.

The fluted surface not only adds texture but also slightly slows down the transfer of heat from a hot drink to the cup’s exterior, offering an intresting tactile experience for fingers as they grasp the cup.
