NO MORE HANDLES

NO MORE HANDLES is a series of experiments aimed at exploration of new ways of handling a hot cup. Departing from traditional “ear’ handle, I came up with alternative handling concepts: creating a delicate extra wall around the cup or adding volume to decorations, thus making them to function as holding points. Another approach was based on the physical principles of heat conductivity: a set of cups was made through introducing a fine layer of air in between the walls, or making walls super thick or very porous. Using the same mould for the body of the cups I tried various additives and experimented with the very process of slip-casting.

The project was conducted as part of ‘Project Network 2009′ program in ICRC Guldagergaard, Denmark.

Later on one of the designes from this project turned into BUTTONS – the most recognizable of my products. I also exploit another idea from this series and make ‘cups with branches’ from time to time (see the photos below).
