PORCELAIN FLOW

Porcelain objects, when fired high, get slightly melted and transformed by the gravity and internal stress of material. Usually, a designer tries to predict and prevent these transformations. But what happens if porcelain was allowed to move the way it wanted to, if the heat dictated how an object looks like after the firing? Objects from the series PORCELAIN FLOW were designed exactly this way. Their top parts were absolutely flat before they got into the kiln, but during the firing the wide rims started to move and formed a surface with a totally different appearance – soft and curvy, like a frozen flow of porcelain.

These objects were made especially for the exhibition “Not a spoilage” that showcased all sorts of accidents and trasformations that can happen to a ceramic piece in a kiln.
